Today we have had a visit from John Walters, an educator from Australia. He has created a reading programme designed to develop children’s vocabulary and interest in books before learning to read. He gave a fascinating talk to some staff on the background to Parent Assisted Immersive Reading ad the research behind it. The scheme encourages parents to read to their children and gives ideas for structured discussion and questioning to develop vocabulary and understanding.
We have used this in school over the last couple of years and are now looking forward to adding the iconic books to use with families that may not ave English as a first language. We are delighted to be the only school in Wales currently using this programme. This programme will be used in Nursery this term.
