This half term we are exploring the topic 'International Destination Cardiff'
During this topic the children will:
Write a recount of your trip, focusing on your vocabulary.
Collect your data using a tally chart or list.
Present your data using a pictogram and a bar chart on square paper.
Research menus on the iPads from your selected country, scan for important information.
Create your own menu using the correct format
Read different recipes, look at how the information is sequenced
Write a recipe (linked to Roald Dahl) using adverbs and adjectives
Select one food item that you will create, and research recipes to find the quantity of ingredients you need.
Calculate the miles you main ingredients have travelled. Use a calculator to calculate the miles of all of the ingredients.
You have £5 per group, go to the supermarket and buy the ingredients you need. Record the cost per item and the change.
Calculate the cost per unit (e.g. slice of pizza) using fractions of amounts – (Calculator used to work out costs)
Now cost each item/unit to make a small profit
Work as a group to identify roles and role play the café experience
Our topic for this half term is Flight Engineers. The children will be studying the forces needed to make an object fly and will be making their own kites to test at the park.
Class 9 and 10 will be going to Techniquest on Thursday 17th November
to continue with our research on electricity, light and sound.
‘Toys N Things’ has asked for your help, they want you to design the number one toy for Christmas 2016. You need to use your knowledge of light and sound to make the toy interactive. Survey a sample of children that are the age your toy is aimed for. Create a detailed drawing with measurements and circuit drawing to give to the production team. You will need to write a description to market your toy.
